I took my car in for a brake job - it was an older car that had a known oil leak. While looking at the brakes, the owner, Darren Carr, recommended that we repair a leaky seal to stop the oil leak. Once they got in there, they saw "sludge" in the engine and suggested that we "de-sludge" it or risk potential dire consequences to the health of my car engine.
My father previously had a serious engine complication from a similar repair on a different car and suggested I ask Mr. Carr about the possibility of a similar complication on my car. Mr. Carr said there was a "slim to none" chance of a problem with this procedure. I authorized the repair based on his supposed expert advice.
The "de-sludging" advised by Mr. Carr caused the oil pickup to the engine to be blocked and the next day my car stopped running. Mr. Carr states that he is not responsible for this, even though the car was running fine when I took it in to him, and he will not repair the damage to the engine. I now basically have no car after almost $900 of repair work.
Even though this shop supposedly warranties their work for one year or 12,000 miles, they do not stand behind their work. Mr. Carr is combative in person; the parts manager Tim is a lot kinder but unfortunately has no authority. I would strongly advise you to NOT TAKE YOUR CAR to this shop, and especially do not proceed with any repair to your engine by these people that is not acutely necessary.
